Strike a Pose: Engagement and Wedding Posing Made Simple

It’s one of the most common things we hear from our couples—“We are so awkward in photos.” Although we quickly find that’s not true, posing can feel intimidating. You shouldn’t have to think about it—we’ve got you. Here are our pro tips to feel confident and look amazing in your engagement and wedding photos.

1) Shift Your Weight

Skip the “lean forward” hand-on-hip stance. Instead, place your weight on the back leg and soften the front knee slightly. That subtle change elongates your lines and looks relaxed and elegant.

2) Hands!

Do what feels natural with your partner—hand on the cheek, around the waist, or on the arm. Keep fingers relaxed to avoid “the claw.” Light, soft contact reads romantic on camera.

3) Wear that Chin Proudly

Hold your head high and gently project your chin forward. It’s confident, flatters the jawline, and helps avoid the double-chin effect in photos.

4) Forehead to Forehead

It’s intimate and beautiful. Touch foreheads slightly offset (toward the far side from the camera) so we still see cheek and lash line. Look down to avoid going cross-eyed.

5) Engage with Each Other

Keep chatting, laughing, and flirting—don’t “freeze” when the camera comes out. Genuine connection creates authentic, emotive images.

Bonus for men: A hand slipped casually into a pocket is timeless and polished.
Bonus for women: Create a little space between upper arm and body for slimmer lines.

And truly—if you hire photographers who know how to pose you (hi! 👋), you can leave all of this to us.

Bonus tip for men: A hand in the pocket (thumb in or out, whichever you prefer) is always a good, polished look.

Bonus tip for women: Create separation between your body and your arm for slimmer looking upper arms.
