Intimate Mountaintop Max Patch Elopement - Meg + Jordan

When Meg & Jordan dreamed of their wedding day, they knew they wanted something intimate, adventurous, and true to who they are as a couple. Instead of a big ballroom celebration, they chose to elope atop Max Patch, one of the most breathtaking mountain balds along the Appalachian Trail.

Perched on the border of North Carolina and Tennessee, Max Patch offers 360-degree mountain views that stretch for miles. On their wedding day, patches of ice glistened across the grass, giving the entire scene a soft, romantic glow. With nothing but open skies and the beauty of the Smoky Mountains around them, Meg & Jordan exchanged heartfelt vows in a short, meaningful ceremony.

Why Max Patch Is Perfect for an Elopement

As a Knoxville wedding photographer, I’ve been lucky to capture weddings in so many beautiful places, but Max Patch is truly special. Whether you’re planning a Smoky Mountain elopement or simply want an adventurous backdrop for your vows, Max Patch delivers every season of the year:

  • Breathtaking Views – panoramic mountaintop scenery without needing to hike for hours.

  • Seasonal Beauty – wildflowers in summer, golden light in fall, and magical frost in winter.

  • Romantic Privacy – an open-air space perfect for couples seeking an intimate ceremony.

Meg & Jordan’s day was the perfect reminder that your wedding doesn’t have to follow tradition. It can be just the two of you, on top of the world, promising forever.

Planning Your Max Patch Elopement

If you’re considering eloping at Max Patch, here are a few quick tips to help you plan:

  • Best Time of Day: Sunrise and sunset provide the dreamiest light.

  • Seasons: Fall brings incredible colors, while winter offers peaceful, icy landscapes.

  • Accessibility: The bald is accessible by car with a short hike, making it great for couples who want epic views without a strenuous trek.

Documenting Love in the Mountains

Meg & Jordan’s Max Patch elopement was the perfect blend of adventure and intimacy. The crisp air, sweeping mountain views, and their undeniable joy made this day unforgettable.

If you’re dreaming of your own Smoky Mountain elopement or a mountain wedding near Knoxville, I would be honored to capture it. Whether you’re planning a big celebration or a private mountaintop vow exchange, your love story deserves to be documented in a way that feels timeless, romantic, and true to you.

Jason Messing

Who are we? We are Jason and Staci Messing, a husband and wife photography team based in Knoxville, Tennessee. We met in 2007, starting dating in 2008, and have been together ever since. We were married at the Capitol Theatre in Maryville in 2012, and our special day actually led to our interest in photography and inspired us to pursue our dream of owning our own business.  (See our wedding story here!)  Our family team grew when we had our sweet son, Jaden, in 2014, and he's already reviewing our photos for us.

What's our style? The adjectives we always used to describe our photography style are light, airy, natural and whimsical. We would say our job is to capture all the amazing moments of your big day so that you have a tangible memory of the people, details, and surroundings that make your wedding special. We essentially want your day to look like a fairy tale, and it's all about making even the ordinary exceptional by photographing meaningful and candid moments.

What about the name? Jason's business actually started as one centered around music production and video editing.  Juicebeats, his nickname as a producer and rapper, inspired our company name, originally Juicebeats Productions. In 2013, the business evolved into one focused on a new creative outlet, photography, and it was only natural that Staci jumped on board in late 2014 as the 2nd shooter/photographer assistant. We debated a name change (for 12 seconds) until we realized that Juicebeats is unique, memorable, and just us.
